DESCRIPTION:Trust in science is often discussed at the level of systems\, i
 nstitutions\, and participation frameworks. Yet\, *how often do we examine
  the individual communicator as a central variable in building or eroding 
 that trust?*\n\nThis masterclass proposes a complementary\, skill-based pe
 rspective: trust is not only designed into processes\, but enacted in real
  time through communication. Drawing on the work of *Yulia Talk Smart*\, t
 his session focuses on the practical techniques that scientists and practi
 tioners can use to communicate with clarity\, credibility\, and confidence
  across diverse audiences\, including within citizen science contexts.\n\n
 Led by an aerospace engineer and PhD in space radiation protection\, with 
 a background in competitive debating\, the session bridges research experi
 ence and high-performance communication training. It addresses a common ga
 p: **while participants in citizen science projects are often highly engag
 ed\, they are rarely *trained* to articulate uncertainty\, respond to chal
 lenges\, or convey the value of their work in a way that fosters mutual tr
 ust.**\n\nThrough a structured and interactive format\, participants will 
 explore:\n	•	how confidence in delivery influences perceived credibility
  and trustworthiness\n	•	techniques to communicate uncertainty without u
 ndermining authority\n	•	strategies to engage diverse stakeholders (citi
 zens\, scientists\, policymakers) in meaningful dialogue\n	•	methods to 
 structure messages that are both scientifically rigorous and accessible\n	
 •	best practices for handling questions\, disagreement\, and scepticism 
 in public-facing contexts\n\nThe masterclass combines short conceptual inp
 uts with applied exercises\, allowing participants to immediately test and
  refine their communication approaches. Examples drawn from high-stakes sc
 ientific environments and citizen-facing contexts will illustrate how smal
 l shifts in framing\, tone\, and structure can significantly impact trust-
 building outcomes.\n\nBy **focusing on the individual communicator as an a
 ctive agent in shaping trust**\, this session contributes a practical dime
 nsion to ongoing discussions in citizen science: not only whether trust ca
 n be fostered through participation\, but *how* it is enacted\, moment by 
 moment\, through communication.
